MezzPro 500kg Mezzanine Goods Lift: Technical Product Guide
Our 500kg Mezzanine Goods Lift Specification Guide
Our MezzPro 500kg Mezzanine Goods Lift provides a controlled way to move loaded pallets, trolleys, roll cages, and other materials between floors. Its mid-range lifting capacity suits many warehouses, factories, workshops, self-storage facilities, and commercial premises that regularly move heavier loads to or from a mezzanine level. The most common load rating for a mezzanine floor is 4.8kN/m2, so pallets should be under 500kg in weight.
UK buyers often search for goods platform lifts when they need a safer and more efficient route between floors. Capacity is just one part of the specification; platform dimensions, load type, travel distance, number of stops, loading direction, frequency of use, and the available installation space all help determine which lift will work effectively.

What Is a 500kg Mezzanine Goods Lift Designed to Do?
Our 500kg mezzanine floor goods lift carries materials vertically between defined floor levels, also called stops or landings. Goods travel on a platform inside an enclosed shaft, while operators load and unload the platform from outside the enclosure at each landing.
The lift creates a dedicated route for stock and equipment that would otherwise need to be carried on stairs or moved using another material-handling process. It supports safer handling, shortens transfer times, and helps a business use an upper floor or mezzanine for storage, order picking, production, or other operational activities.
How Our 500kg Goods Platform Lift Operates
Operators place the goods securely on the platform, close the landing gates, and use the controls next to the lift. The Penny Engineering MezzPro uses constant-pressure controls, which means the operator is in complete control of the lift whilst it is in transit. Releasing the button stops the movement.
Electrical and mechanical interlocks control the landing gates. They prevent operation until the gates are closed and prevent a gate from opening unless the platform is correctly positioned at that landing. Emergency stop controls provide an additional way to halt operation when required.
What Can You Carry in a 500kg Goods Lift?
The MezzPro can handle a range of stable loads, provided the total lifted weight is within 500kg and the complete load fits safely on the specified platform. Typical applications include:
- A single loaded pallet
- Picking and stock trolleys
- Roll cages
- Boxes, cartons, and crates
- Packaged materials
- Tools and workshop equipment
- Manufacturing components
- Catering or retail stock
- Storage and removals containers
What Types of Businesses Use 500kg Mezzanine Floor Goods Lifts?
A 500kg capacity suits operations that handle loads throughout the working day. It is commonly relevant where items are too heavy or awkward for routine manual handling and where the business needs a repeatable process for moving stock between levels.
Warehousing and distribution: Moving pallets, roll cages, and picking trolleys to storage areas.
Manufacturing: Transferring components, materials, tools, and work in progress.
Self-storage: Moving customers’ boxed goods and storage containers.
Retail and wholesale: Replenishing upper-floor or mezzanine stock areas.
Workshops: Moving equipment, parts, and packaged products.
Food and drink: Transferring packaged ingredients, supplies, or finished stock.
Commercial storage: Making upper levels easier to use for regular goods movement.
The final specification should reflect the specific load and process. Two businesses may both require a 500kg lift while needing different platform dimensions, gate positions, travel distances, and maintenance schedules.
Is 500kg the Right Goods Lift Capacity?
The maximum working load is the greatest total load the lift can carry safely during one journey. This includes the goods and every other item travelling on the platform, such as a pallet, roll cage, trolley, container, or removable handling aid.
|
250kg MezzLight Consider a 250kg model for boxes, totes, crates, light trolleys, and other compact loads under a 250kg total working load. |
500kg MezzPro Consider a 500kg model for a pallet, roll cage, stock trolley, or other medium-duty loads under a 500kg total working load. |
1000kg MezzHD Consider a 1000kg model for heavier pallets, bulky industrial materials, machinery components, or foreseeable loads exceeding 500kg. |
How to Specify a 500kg Mezzanine Floor Goods Lift
A useful initial enquiry should explain what you need to lift, how large and heavy the complete load will be, where it needs to travel, and how frequently the lift will operate. This information gives us a practical starting point for the survey and design.
Record the heaviest and typical goods, pallet, trolley, or roll cage that will travel on the lift. Include packaging, containers, and where weights vary, use the highest foreseeable combined figure.
Tell the design team about any unusual loads. Long products, concentrated weights, unstable items, liquid containers, and goods with an offset centre of gravity may need specific platform dimensions, barriers, or operating instructions.
Measure the longest, widest, and highest points of the loaded item. Include product overhang, packaging, protruding handles, and the dimensions of any trolley or roll cage. For a single pallet mezzanine floor lift, for instance, measure the loaded pallet rather than relying only on the pallet’s nominal size.
Allow enough room to place and remove the load safely without striking the gates or enclosure. The landing also needs sufficient space for operators to approach, manoeuvre, and retrieve the goods. A larger platform retains the same maximum working load unless the lift specification states otherwise.
Travel is the vertical distance that the platform moves between the lowest and highest stops. Our 500kg MezzPro can serve two or three stops, with travel of up to 10m. The actual design depends on the floor levels, available space, and site arrangement.
Provide accurate finished floor levels wherever possible. For a new mezzanine or building project, construction drawings can support the initial design. The site survey and approved lift drawings should confirm the final measurements before manufacture.
The loading direction describes where goods enter and leave the platform. Common arrangements for mezzanine floor goods lifts include same-side loading, through-loading, and, on some lift designs, a 90-degree arrangement.
With same-side loading, goods enter and leave through gates on the same side of the lift. With through-loading, goods enter at one side and leave from the opposite side. Through-loading can support a direct movement route where the building layout allows it.
Map the full journey of the pallet, roll cage, or trolley before choosing the gate positions. Consider aisle widths, doors, racking, workstations, and turning space. We’ll review the loading route during the site survey and confirm the available configuration as part of the design.
Tell us how many loads the lift is likely to carry per hour, how many shifts the business runs, and when the busiest periods occur. Occasional stock transfers create a different operating pattern from a lift supporting continuous picking or production work.
The expected frequency helps our design and service teams understand the lift’s duty and recommend a suitable maintenance programme. It also helps you position the lift where operators can use it without creating queues or obstructing other work.
The lift needs enough room for its shaft, gates, power arrangement, loading access, and safe working space. The survey also considers the floor condition, mezzanine opening, headroom, nearby equipment, and the route used to deliver and install the lift.
The proposed location may require coordination with the mezzanine supplier, structural engineer, electrical contractor, or other competent advisers. Building control, fire safety, structural, and electrical requirements may also need consideration as part of the project.
Tell our surveyor whether the lift will stand indoors, outdoors, or in a demanding environment. Moisture, dust, temperature, corrosive materials, and wash-down processes can affect the design, finish, electrical components, and maintenance requirements.
The MezzPro has a fully mesh-clad, self-supporting shaft, electrical and mechanical gate interlocks, emergency stop controls, and constant-pressure operating buttons. These features separate people from the moving platform and control when the lift and landing gates can operate.
Safe use also depends on correct loading, trained operators, routine checks, and timely maintenance. The maximum working load must remain clearly understood, and no person may travel on a goods-only lift (note: all Penny Engineering mezzanine floor goods lifts are for goods-only travel).
What Happens During the Site Survey?
During the initial site survey, we review the proposed lift position, floor levels, available footprint, mezzanine opening, and loading route. We also confirm what the lift will carry and how operators will use it during a normal working day.
The survey will identify any work that needs to take place before installation. This could include preparing the agreed location, coordinating the mezzanine opening, providing the specified power supply, or keeping the delivery route clear.
We use the findings to produce or update the lift drawings. These drawings allow you, your contractor and other project stakeholders to review the platform size, shaft position, gates, stops, and surrounding clearances before the design goes to manufacture.
What Happens During Installation and Commissioning?
Our installation team delivers the lift, assembles and secures the shaft and platform system, installs the gates and controls, and completes the agreed work at each landing. Our service includes off-loading the equipment, so customers do not need to provide a forklift for the delivery off-load and provision of any standard access equipment required during the installation, such as a MEWP or tower scaffold.
All of our mezzanine goods lift installations are scheduled for two days. We will confirm the project arrangements before attendance so the installation can be coordinated with your operation.
Once installation is complete, we commission the mezzanine floor goods lift and confirm that the system operates in line with its design. The handover package will include a statutory Report of Thorough Examination and operator manual and training for your team.
How Does a No-Pit Mezz Lift Simplify Installation?
The MezzPro uses a self-supporting steel shaft that stands on the floor and encloses the moving platform. The frame supports the lift structure, so the installation does not depend on a conventional built lift shaft or taking support from the existing building.
Its floor-mounted design removes the need to excavate a lift pit. This makes the product suitable for many retrofit projects where a mezzanine already exists and where excavation would create additional cost, disruption, or access difficulties.
